THE RECTOR OF SAINT MARK'S ANGLICAN CHURCH

Bishop David Fleming: Entrepreneur Oregonian Makes Angling for Christ Seem Easy

IT IS A DUTY OF CONSCIENCE, Faith, and family to balance a paying job with the work of the Episcopate while maintaining one's calling to Ministry as being a lifelong twofold consideration. That is, the Bible insists that to be a Bishop a man must keep his personal house in order (1 Timothy 3:4-5), and thus to see the manifestation of his duty to serve God as being shared between the Church and his wife and children.

He works several jobs sometimes. He runs a church. He's a family man. The epitome of the bi-vocational servant of our Lord is thus our superb Bishop David Fleming.

"For even when we were with you, this we commanded you, that if any would not work, neither should he eat" (2 Thessalonians 3:10).

A Delivery Driver for United Parcel Service, the Proprietor of Fleming Dedicated Logistics, LLC, and the President of Tower Truck Services, Bp. Fleming's paycheck rewarded stellar work soundly, for him, his family, and his church. His work in freight forwarding, delivery services, and basic trucking and hauling was only outdone by his service to Christ, inside the church, and wherever he has stepped.

His labors exemplify the Christian ethic of producing value from one's life, from which others may watch, learn, and benefit:.

"Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven" (Matthew 5:16).

A devotee of the model of producing and sustaining churches via Biblical principles while Jesus is busy performing prayed-for miracles such as healing and the Priest meanwhile presides over baptisms and the Eucharist---during which the Deacon leads calls to charity---are the ways in which Bp. Fleming has always been motivated by the Word of God, especially the Book of Acts, He leads his Congregation at Saint Mark's Anglican Church while paying reverence toward that enduring body's distinction of its being a precursor of the so-called "Continuing-Anglican" movement.

Saint Mark's history as an early chancery of Traditional Anglican Church of America long preceded the 1978 Saint Louis Affirmation. Its truly catholic culture of conservativism and legacy of moral orthodoxy are indeed historic. The people in the pews who have listened to the founding bishops Edwin Caudill and Bob Baker, and the great Bp. Paul Leeman, now hear Bp. Dave nobly celebrating the Liturgy and giving homilies in the same Sacred Tradition of extolling the Apostolic vow to be doers of the Word:

"And they continued stedfastly in the apostles' doctrine and fellowship, and in breaking of bread, and in prayers. And fear came upon every soul: and many wonders and signs were done by the apostles. And all that believed were together, and had all things common; And sold their possessions and goods, and parted them to all men, as every man had need. And they, continuing daily with one accord in the temple, and breaking bread from house to house, did eat their meat with gladness and singleness of heart, Praising God, and having favour with all the people. And the Lord added to the church daily such as should be saved" (Acts 2:42-47).
